Why visit Ecuador?

Here we will talk to you about our beloved country, Ecuador, a wonderful country located in the center of the world. Considered the best tourist destination in South America, in the equatorial region of the Pacific, known as the country of the four worlds.

Origin of its name: The name of my country is so named thanks to the equinoctial line or the Equator, this is the maximum parallel of the earth that crosses from east to west.

History: Our history is divided into four stages:

  • Prehispanic stage

  • Hispanic stage

  • Independence Stage

  • Republic Stage.

Our history begins with the pre-Hispanic ethnic groups until the arrival of one of the greatest civilizations that Latin America has had, the Inca civilization, and with this the invasion of the pre-Hispanic peoples of the Ecuadorian territory, after the old continent the Spaniards arrived and the Conquest Spanish for later with the foundation of San Francisco de Quito, the Spanish political-administrative era began that would last until the time of independence, when the Colombian nation of Simón Bolívar emerged, better known as La Gran Colombia, and then when divided it would form what which today is called the Republic of Ecuador.

Currency: On January 9, 2000, we abandoned what until then had been our national currency, the sucre, to become “dollarized”, that is, to officially adopt the currency of the United States, the dollar._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b -136bad5cf58d_

Currently you can find the US dollar in circulation: bills of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50,100 and fractions of: 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents and 1 dollar; so also in two presentations the one you know with American impressions and the Ecuadorian presentation, which will only serve you in Ecuador, with impressions of famous people from Ecuadorian history.

The country of the 4 worlds: Ecuador has everything to satisfy your travel expectations, such as expeditions, train trips, adventure activities or relaxation and contemplation; savor its historic and exotic gastronomy; enjoy beaches, mountains, jungle, humid and dry tropical forests. All this and more is possible in its four worlds: Galapagos, Pacific Coast, Andes and Amazon.

Official language: Ecuador is known for its plurinationality (culture and language) and geographic diversity; having Spanish as the official language, however, there are fourteen indigenous languages that are still vital, but unfortunately seriously violated.

Religion: Although Ecuador is a secular country, the Catholic religion is predominant, however, there are other cults such as: Jehovah's Witnesses, Adventists, Evangelical, etc.

Holidays: In the country we have several holidays throughout the year, and depending on where you are you will find holidays typical of the area, always on these days Ecuadorians take the opportunity to do tourism within the country .

Recommendations to Visit Ecuador

Before visiting Ecuador you have to take into account the following recommendations:

  • Ecuador requires a valid passport from all visiting travelers, as well as proof of return or continued travel.

  • Always carry your passport with you, or at least an official photocopy of it, while traveling in Ecuador.

  • Do not travel with 100 dollar bills around the city, they are hardly accepted anywhere. It is best to bring everything in 20 bills, do not expect large bills, they will all be 20 and 10.

  • To use most public toilets you have to pay around 10 cents to enter.

  • When moving between cities, simply arrive at the terminal early so you can get your ticket for the first bus.

  • If you are looking for a good and cheap place to eat, I recommend that you go to the places that offer “Almuerzos”, as we call the daily menu, which consists of a first course soup, main course with juice and a small dessert, and best of all, it only costs you 3 dollars, there are very good sites. At dinner time you will also find the same menu but this time we call it “Snacks”.

  • The taxis are yellow, but the peculiar thing about them is that they are constantly looking for and capturing customers, so don't be surprised if they beep or flash their lights when you travel with your backpack because this is the way they call your attention.

  • The Ecuadorian sun is very strong, for two main reasons:

    • Because of its proximity to the earth.

    • Due to the perpendicularity of the rays when they hit the earth, they do so almost directly, which makes their heat more intense.

  • That's why don't be surprised if you see protectors higher than 50 or even level 100 of sun protection.

  • In one day you can have all the seasons, even if we don't have snow, so don't suspend any of your activities because it rains in the morning. Simply put your jacket or raincoat in your backpack for the day's excursion.

  • It is always good to be prepared, so I recommend you get the yellow fever vaccine, especially if you go through the Amazon region.

  • Here the VAT is 12% so I recommend you claim all the invoices you can where you have been charged VAT, since when you leave you can request a VAT refund on all your purchases including lodging invoices.

  • Electrical appliances in Ecuador work with alternating current, 110 Volts, 60 Hertz, which means that European travelers must bring adapters for their electrical equipment. Although in the country you can get them in a hardware store
